Piikuni Community Background
The Piikuni Nation community (42 - North Peigan) is located 185km south of Calgary, on the Provincial Highway Number 3 between the towns of Pincher Creek and Lethbridge situated along the Oldman River in southwest Alberta. The Piikuni Nation was established following the signing of Treaty 7 on September 22, 1877. They were the smallest tribe in the Blackfoot Confederacy, which also included the Siksika Nation (43), Blood Nation (41) and Blackfeet Nation (42 - South Peigan). The Sroney Nation (44) and the Tsuu T'ina Nation (45) are also part of the Treaty 7.
